Mayor Daniel Crespo
Bell Gardens Mayor Daniel Crespo was born and raised in one of the toughest projects in Brooklyn, New York.
In 1986, Mayor Crespo, a young teenager, married his high school sweetheart and has been married ever since. He relocated from New York to Bell Gardens and in 1987 his daughter was born. In 1994, Mayor Crespo and his wife welcomed their son into the world.
Mayor Crespo graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Psychology/Family Counseling from East Los Angeles College and two years later he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice/Public Administration from Cal State University, Los Angeles. He is a candidate for his Master’s in Public Administration. After graduation he became a Deputy Probation Officer for Los Angeles County.
Mayor Crespo has been a Deputy Probation Officers for the past 15 years. He has worked for eight years with the youth in Juvenile Halls, Youth Camps, and in residential treatment center. For the past five years he has worked in Adult Supervision, Gang unit, Narcotics, and is currently an Adult Investigator.
After years of fighting against discrimination and injustice, many prominent Latino leaders from the United States Congress, California State Senate and Assembly, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, and the City of Los Angeles have recognized Councilman Crespo’s leadership and dedication to the Community.
In 1999, following many years of being active in Bell Gardens community and civic affairs, Mayor Crespo was appointed to the Planning Commission and to serve as the group’s chairman. In 2001, he was elected to the City Council.
When not working or participating in the very time-consuming activities of being an elected official, Mayor Crespo enjoys spending time with his family and being involved in community events, especially those that benefit the youth.
