Officer Involved Shooting - Updated on 02/06/20 at 10:30 pm

On today’s date at approximately 9:30 am officers attempted to contact two known individuals. The two individuals acknowledged the officers and then fled on foot. As the officers pursued the individuals, one of them turned and shot at the officers. Officers returned fire as the suspects continued to flee.

Officers quickly established a perimeter and requested additional officers and resources to respond. As resources arrived from numerous police agencies, one suspect was located. Officers also believed that the second suspect, the shooter, was hiding in a nearby apartment complex.

During the investigation officers learned that the suspect was inside a house with a female. Officers were advised that the suspect stated that he had a weapon and that he was going to kill himself. After hours of requests for the suspect to surrender both via the phone and loud speakers there was no response.

At approximately 7:16 pm BGPD’s Special Operations Team deployed tear gas into the location in an attempt to get the suspect to come out. Officers attempted numerous other tactics to try and convince the suspect to exit the location but were unsuccessful.

At about 8:45 pm BGPD Special Operations Team entered the location and located the suspect who was unresponsive. Aid was rendered to the suspect by a tactical medic and later by LA County Fire Personnel, however he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
