Statement Regarding City Employee Testing Positive for COVID-19


The City was informed today that an employee with the City of Bell Gardens Public Works Department has tested positive for COVID-19.  The employee has not been at work in the City for over two weeks and has not had contact with residents or employees during this time.  The City is notifying employees who may have worked in close contact with the person who tested positive.  Equipment, tools and office space used by the employee has been sanitized to prevent any potential future spread of the virus.


In compliance with applicable employer/employee privacy laws, the City of Bell Gardens must protect the confidentiality of the employee and therefore limited information is available at this time. Information that would lead to the identification of a specific employee is protected. This is a challenging time for residents and employees.  The City’s top priority is the health and safety of residents and employees. The City is working across the organization to adapt and adjust so that the City can continue to deliver necessary services while protecting the health and safety of the community and workforce. The City continues to limit public contact within City facilities through building closures and/or revised protocols, provide employees with protective gear when interacting with the public and disinfecting City facilities.


To slow the spread of #COVID19, LA County Health Officer issued new orders on March, 25, 2020:

  • Self-quarantine of anyone exposed to someone diagnosed with/likely to have COVID19
  • Self-isolation of anyone diagnosed with/showing symptoms within 14 days of close contact with an infected person.
