Bell Gardens City Council Files Suit Regarding the Quality Inn Facility

The Quality Inn isolation and quarantine shelter facility continues to be operated in the City of Bell Gardens despite the City’s demand for prompt action to safeguard its residents. On Wednesday, April 15, 2020, the City sent a letter to the owner of the Quality Inn demanding that the shelter facility cease taking new patients and transfer their existing patients to another location.  The hotel owner was also notified that the City would take legal action against it if it did not comply with the City’s demand.  Based on the continued operation of the facility, the City has filed an action in Superior Court in order to protect the health and safety of its residents.

The City has also respectfully declined the invitation of the United States District Court to appear at an April 23, 2020 emergency status conference in a separate matter involving California’s Project Roomkey.  The City appreciates the work of Project Roomkey and the District Court in addressing the chronic and severe issue of Los Angeles-area residents experiencing homelessness. However, the City’s priority is to ensure the health and safety of its residents and it is unclear that this is a significant concern of the parties to the District Court action.

The complaint filed by the City in City of Bell Gardens v. Bell Gardens Hospitality, LLC (LASC Case 20STCV15440) is included below.
