Rodriguez - March 2019A social worker and life-long advocate for senior citizens, low-income families, and the youth of the community, Council Member Jennifer Rodriguez was elected to the Bell Gardens City Council in March 2003. In January 2007 and January 2015 she was selected by her colleagues to serve as Mayor, and as unanimously elected by the City Council to serve as Mayor Pro Tem in February 2009.

In addition to her extensive responsibilities as a member of the City Council, Council Member Rodriguez is a fulltime social worker and director of admissions at a local healthcare facility, where she is committed to the well-being of others.

Council Member Rodriguez has lived in Bell Gardens her entire life where she continues to live with her husband and two children. She attended Bell Gardens Elementary, Bell Gardens Intermediate, and Bell Gardens High School. She also holds a degree in psychology from California State University, Long Beach. She is a former princess in the Miss Bell Gardens Court.

While on the City Council, Council Member Rodriguez has championed several causes extremely important to her. They include the Neighborhood Watch program, after school youth programs, and the expansion of senior citizen activities. She says she will continue to work for comprehensive gang diversion and after school programs to keep the youth involved in educational and sports activities and off the streets.

Council Member Rodriguez said she plans to continue working with her fellow council members for more affordable low-to-moderate income housing, new job opportunities, and expanding parks and recreational activities.

She sees her role on the City Council as a passionate advocate for the entire community. A strong believer in teamwork and partnerships, she wants to bring residents, civic, educational and business groups together to better meet the needs of Bell Gardens' diverse and growing community. By involving Bell Gardens residents, she hopes to increase public awareness about the challenges and opportunities we face locally and to expand citizen participation in civic and municipal activities.

When she is not busy at City Hall or with her full-time job, Council Member Rodriguez can be found enjoying other interests which includes spending time with her family, walking, running, sports activities, and in projects that assist the entire community.
